President & CEO

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

The President & CEO will have a deep commitment to the mission and future of the Ali Center, setting the tone by which the Center will flourish and achieve the next phase of growth and development. Reporting to the Board of Directors, they will provide strategic leadership, as well as oversight of the Ali Center’s $5M budget, operations, programs, and 30+ staff and volunteers.

A successful track record of fundraising is paramount to this role and is the focus of Pillar One of the Strategic Plan. Over the first 17 years of operations, the Ali Center has experienced inconsistent funding, which has limited its ability to build and execute its programming. The Center relies on a mix of earned and contributed revenue and both are addressed in Pillar One of the Strategic Plan. The President & CEO will ensure that the Ali Center is a sustainable organization by focusing significant efforts on fundraising through individuals, corporations, foundations, special events, government grants, and all other sources to support the Ali Center’s mission.

The President & CEO will serve as a visible representation of the Ali Center and will be responsible for developing key strategies for its positioning and growth, developing strong relationships with donors, strategic partners, community, and world leaders to implement the vision and strategy. They will have the capacity to turn a mission into real results.

Membership Manager

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

The Membership Manager will be primarily responsible for developing and executing a robust corporate and individual membership program for the Center, establishing strategies and processes to track and promote growth, retention, and engagement.

JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily administration the Ali Center’s membership programs, including processing new memberships, updating individual records, and overseeing member card fulfillment, renewals, and acknowledgment letters.
  • Address all member questions and concerns in a timely and sensitive manner.
  • In collaboration with Ali Center colleagues, plan, publicize, and execute members events designed to promote member acquisition and retention.
  • Continually track membership acquisition, retention, upgrades, downgrades, and other key performance metrics.
  • Support corporate members with the utilization of their membership benefits.
  • Monitor industry-related trends and innovations in membership, donor stewardship, and analytics.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Two (2) years of nonprofit experience, preferably in the arts and cultural sector

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

The Muhammad Ali Center (MAC) values the critical role that frontline staff play in creating an onsite experience that is accessible and inclusive for all. To support this, we are seeking an energetic, guest-service-oriented person. This person will provide an excellent service to the security operation and overall guest experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts themselves in a professional manner and provides customer service at a high level which meets current hospitality industry standards (i.e., greeting visitors, providing information pertaining to our facility and direction to other locations in proximity to our facility, ensuring our visitors have a memorable experience)
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment as well as multi-task when needed
  • Understands back of house procedures (i.e., vendor arrivals/departures, deliveries, etc.)
  • Ensures the safety and protection of all visitors, staff, collection items, and property of the facility at all times
  • Monitor and authorize the entrance of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against any type of theft
  • Patrol the premises of the facility to prevent and/or detect signs of intrusion as well as ensure the security of doors, windows, and gates on the property
  • Investigate and address any type of disturbance within the property of the center
  • Understand the functionality of an industry standard security camera monitoring CCTV system and access system

Staff Accountant

JOB TYPE:

Sr. Director of Finance and Business Operations

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

The Muhammad Ali Center seeks a part-time Staff Accountant to assist in overseeing financial processing and management. The Staff Accountant is responsible for processing weekly payables and receivables on behalf of the organization; preparation of periodic reporting; assisting the Director of Finance and Business Operations in preparation for the annual audit; and other financial/administrative duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be organized, proactive, and flexible with excellent analytical, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work productively in a small office and collaborative environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process and enter daily cash and credit card sales from POS and ecommerce systems into Blackbaud Financial Edge
  • Reconcile daily cash deposits
  • Process and record all payables and receivables on a timely basis using Financial Edge
  • Ensure compliance with MAC’s financial management policies
  • Adhere to MAC’s established chart of accounts
  • Oversee vendor onboarding and the accounts payable process, which may include verification of federal ID numbers, reviewing purchase orders, and resolving discrepancies
  • Enter and reconcile monthly credit card statements
  • Record entry of, verify documentation for, and distribute petty cash
  • Assist Director of Finance as requested compiling documentation for annual audit
  • Provide cashier assistance as needed for events
  • Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded
  • Update accounts receivable and issue invoices
  • Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines
  • Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned
  • Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
  • Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
  • Assist Director of Finance in preparation of monthly/yearly closings
  • Receive and verify expense reports; reconcile expense and other financial reports with account balances and other office records
  • Assist with accounting records and ledgers by reconciling monthly statements and transactions
  • Calculate, record and report sales tax based on daily receipts
  • Prepare, post, verify, and record customer payments and transactions related to accounts receivable
  • Create invoices according to company practices; submit invoices to customers
  • Maintain and update vendor files, including name or address changes, mergers, or mailing attentions
  • Draft correspondence for standard past-due accounts and collections, identify delinquent accounts by reviewing files and contact delinquent account holders to request payment
  • Create reports regarding the status of customer accounts as requested
  • Research customer discrepancies and past-due amounts
  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance to reconcile accounts receivable and other asset and liability accounts on a periodic (at least bi-monthly) basis
  • Other financial and administrative tasks as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance and/or relevant work experience
  • Excellent organizing abilities and attention to detail
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial data analysis
  • Ability to use accounting software to record, store, and analyze financial data

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

The Muhammad Ali Center Internship Program is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact in the world. This program is designed to provide students and recent graduates with hands-on experience in a non-profit organization that is dedicated to fostering respect, inspiring generations of changemakers, and promoting social justice.

JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

We offer internships in several departments:

  • Collections and Archives Internship – During an internship with the Collections & Archives department, you will work with our permanent collection, archives, and exhibits. This internship will provide you with a broad understanding of museum work. While working with our team, you will learn how to digitize historic papers and periodicals, curate an exhibition, and update our digital museum. You will gain experience in research, history, content management, non-profit management skills, and a firsthand look at the history of the Muhammad Ali Center, and knowledge about Muhammad Ali’s legacy.
  • Education & Programming Internship – An internship with the Education Department will focus on the ins and outs of museum education, group facilitation, and programming. This will include: assisting the planning and implementation of school fieldtrips and group tours, supporting coordination of public education programs, and facilitating events with our university partners. The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills, an interest in education, and passion for social justice leadership.
  • Exhibitions and Operations – An internship with our Exhibitions and Operations department will focus on compiling project information, including equipment and maintenance manuals, and institutional documents. You will have the opportunity for hands on exhibit and facility troubleshooting and repair and will support the day-to-day functions and tasks of the department. You will also have the opportunity to learn some basic networking and audio video integration. The ideal candidate is organized, mechanically inclined, computer literate, and leans into problem solving.
  • Fundraising and Data Internship – An internship with our Development Department will support our mission advancement and fundraising work.  In this role, you will learn best practices while working on our membership program and fundraising events. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to gain familiarity with multiple data management systems while reviewing and reconciling data in the Center’s current databases so that it can be leveraged for prospect cultivation and donor stewardship. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, process-minded, and passionate about the Center’s mission to mobilize Muhammad Ali’s legacy toward a more just and compassionate world.
  • Marketing & Communications Internship – An internship with the Marketing department will concentrate on social media management and strategic communications. This includes but is not limited to, expanding our email distribution list, live event coverage, planning and creating content, building website pages, and distributing external emails. The ideal candidate has strong written and verbal communication skills, and a passion for digital media or social media.
  • Security Department – During an internship with the Security Department, you will learn about the behind-the-scenes processes for a premiere museum and cultural institution.  You will provide customer service including greeting visitors, checking bags, and providing information pertaining to our facility.  You will have the opportunity to work in the command center of the security department and understand vendor management as well as facility access control. Additionally, you will gain familiarity with the functionality of an industry standard security camera monitoring CCTV system.  A successful candidate will have knowledge of and a comfort with Microsoft Office and Web-based software.
  • Visitor and Retail Services – An internship with the Visitor and Retail Services department will focus on front-of-house museum management and guest experience.  You will learn to greet & welcome guests to the Center. You will support admissions/ticketing and assisting guests with purchasing gifts & souvenirs merchandise from the museum store. You will also learn the ins and outs of customer service.  The ideal candidate is interested in museums, has a passion for guest services, and works harmoniously with others to get the job done.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current college student or a recent graduate.
  • Must be able to commit to an in-person internship at the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, KY throughout the summer months.

Visitors Services Associate

JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greets & welcomes guests to the Center
• Handles admissions/ticketing for the Centers guests
• Assist customers with merchandise in the MAC Store
• Responds to customer requests as directed via telephone, mail, email promptly, and follows through in a timely manner to assure customer satisfaction
• Proficient use of point-of-sale equipment and software
• Participate in activities in the fulfillment of the Store’s operating objectives and sales strategies
• Maintain general cleanliness of the MAC Store by stocking displays, dusting, vacuuming, and overall cleanliness as directed by management
• Consults with the management on marketing and merchandising concepts
• Works harmoniously with others to get the job done; respond positively to instructions and procedures; able to work well with staff in various departments, co-workers, peers, and managers; and helps to set a tone of cooperation within the organization.
