Empowering women through athletics
and sports equity

The 10th annual Shining a Light documentary-style photography exhibition serves as a celebration of the pursuit of equality, empowerment, and excellence within the realm of women and girls sports across the globe.

Participating photographers were asked to submit photographs that illustrate the various ways women compete and the challenges they face in sports all over the world. This project is informed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals #3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and #5 (Gender Equality).

The Muhammad Ali Center aims to highlight inequities within women’s athletics and empower women to do Great things in the face of athletic adversity.

More than 50+ countries submitted to this year’s photography contest, with the top 40 photos selected highlighting women in athletics from five continents.
